Narrating Cavafy’s Life
Professor Gregory Jusdanis (Ohio State University)
Introduced by Professor Ianthi Tsimpli
In this Greek Dialogues seminar, Professor Gregory Jusdanis discusses the art of literary biography through the lens of Alexandrian Sphinx: The Hidden Life of Constantine Cavafy, co-authored with Peter Jeffreys. Bringing new insight into one of the twentieth century’s most compelling poets, he explores how life-writing shapes and reshapes our understanding of artistic identity.
Half a century has passed since a biography was written about Constantine Cavafy, one of the twentieth century’s most celebrated poets. Alexandrian Sphinx: The Hidden Life of Constantine Cavafy by Gregory Jusdanis and Peter Jeffreys brings his life into focus once again. Join us as Gregory Jusdanis reads from his book and discusses both Cavafy’s story and the genre of biography.
