Cambridge has a proud history of Greek studies: it has seen a succession of brilliant Hellenists over the ages: luminaries such as Richard Bentley, Richard Porson, Jane Harrison and A. E. Housman.

In the 21st century the Faculty of Classics has been top-ranked for research in the UK.

Studies of Modern Greek are flourishing too. Each year with more than 20 students are taught by two dedicated associate lecturers. At the research level, Cambridge is known for its pioneering work in Modern Greek linguistics. Greek is also researched in the Faculty of Divinity, another stellar department.
