Cambridge Centre for Greek Studies - London Hellenic Prize - Cambridge University

The London Hellenic Prize is currently taking submissions for its 2019 award.

The Prize is an international award committed to promoting Anglo-Hellenic cultural exchange through the recognition of a literary work. The award is made to the author of a book written, or translated into, English which on a subject relating to, or inspired by, Hellenic civilization, culture, history or literature. The Prize is awarded to works, fact or fiction, of originality and excellence which "...appeal to the educated ‘general reader‘".

Now in its 23rd year, The Prize, which is worth £10,000, was conceived in 1996 and, since its inception, has been administered by The London Hellenic Society.

There is no restriction on the subjects that works can address and submissions cover the full spectrum of Hellenism from ancient to modern times including archaeology, architecture , art, classics , history, literary criticism, religion, and social studies.

Over one hundred books are submitted each year and the winning title, along with some of the shortlisted submissions, are often translated into Greek and published in Greece.

The deadline for submissions for the 2019 LHP will be Monday, 3rd February, 2020.

The 2018 Award has been won by Michael Hughes with his novel ‘Country’.

The ceremony will take place at The Theatre, Peterhouse, University of Cambridge on November 13th, 2019.
