On the 1st of April 2026, our member, Dr Liana Giannakopoulou, was appointed Chair of the Committee for Society, Arts and Letters of the British School at Athens.
The BSA was founded in 1886, is a UK-registered charity and is one of nine British International Research Institutes that receive annual funding from the British Academy. The School exists to promote research of international excellence in all disciplines pertaining to Greek lands, from fine art to archaeometry and in all periods to modern times. It does so through an academic programme of seminars, lectures and conferences but also by supporting research thanks to its internationally renowned library and archive. The BSA supports scholars through publications, funding and internships.
In her role as Chair, Dr Giannakopoulou will oversee the functions of the CSAL, especially all research and research-related activities conducted via the BSA which fall within or relate to the humanities and fine arts, including publications, training and research opportunities.
