Professor Beaton receiveing award from Greek President - Cambridge Centre for Greek Studies

Professor Roderick Beaton, Emeritus Koraes Professor of Modern Greek & Byzantine History, Language & Literature at King's College, London, has been honoured by the President of Greece, Prokopis Pavlopoulos, for his contribution to the study of Greek and Byzantine Modern Greek and Byzantine History, Language and Literature.

Presenting  the Award of Honour, The President acknowledged Professor Beaton's research and work, in a career spanning over 40 years, and highlighted his research into Greek National Conciousness and into the uniqueness of Byzantine history and culture. Speaking at a special ceremony held at the Presidential Mansion in Athens, the President said: "From your whole contribution, I would like to refer to ... one that proves that ... without the Byzantine spiritual contribution we would not have reached the Renaissance ..."
