Greek as a Heritage Language

By Prof Ianthi Maria Tsimpli

Part of the Language, Culture and Myths series of seminars presented by The Hellenic Centre and Cambridge Centre for Greek Studies.

Greeks have been in the diaspora for many years and have tried to maintain their language in the foreign land. Education in Greek has helped sustain the language although educational contexts supporting Greek as a heritage language take different forms in different countries. This presentation will look at the effects of different types of Greek heritage language support in Germany, the UK and the US on children who are heritage speakers of Greek.
