In this fifth seminar in the Greek Dialogues Online series, Dr Frank Salmon, Senior Lecturer in History of Art at the University of Cambridge, contrasts the well-known rise of the Parthenon, in the neo-classical and Romantic age, to pre-eminence as the monument par excellence of the ancient Greek world with the relatively unstudied influence of the Erechtheion in the same period. Dr Salmon considers the British contribution to the understanding of the Erechtheion, on which a stand-alone monograph was published earlier than any equivalent on the Parthenon, and examines its impact on British architectural practice of the later eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.
